Our testers loved this classic card game which is now distributed by U.S. Games Systems. Created in 1984, this variation of the classic card game Oh Hell adds two new types of card to a standard deck: four each of the Wizard and Jester cards. The Wizard card is like a super trump: it beats everything else and can be played at any time, even allowing you to renege when you could otherwise follow suit. The only thing it doesn't beat is another Wizard card played before it (rather than after) - another clever twist that provides a convenient sluff for a player needing to lose a trick. Jester cards let you duck a trick you don't want to take. And since, like the Wizard, a Jester also allows you to renege, you can use it to protect a valued card that would otherwise be over-played if you'd had to follow suit. The Jester is also the card to play when you'd rather not have the lead, but do, because game rules treat the Jester as a non-lead, automatically...
The game reminds me of Oh Heck but this game is better because it has more to it. I like that with the wizard card because you always take the trick. And I really like the joker card because if you have already made your tricks, then you can make the joker a low number. Aleeza (F9)
Wizard is a great card game. It took a while to get used to the scoring but we all caught on after a few turns...even Connor (M6). The special "wild" cards add a great element to the game. Everyone we have played with has enjoyed this game. The downside is that it can take a while to play and you need to finish because the scores can change drastically as you get towards the end of the game. Very fun card game. Jo McGillivray
