Our testers enjoyed the novelty of recording a short phrase and then listening to Ken repeat it back to them in one of three different voices (high pitch, their own voice, or Ken's voice). The record feature was also used during play to have Ken talk in imaginary situations (like talking to other dolls), but just as often, he was played with as a regular doll with kids talking for him.
Overall Play Value Cost Value Design "The recorder part is well made with 3 option of voices. As a doll, it is not as well designed: you can't bend him over or his pants rip and his knees don't bend." Marie-Lise Hache
"Having the voice feature have 3 different tones was a good idea. Instead of having to use a low voice to sound like a boy the doll does it for you. The volume was good. As long as you speak into it normally the output is pretty good. The batteries came with the doll. So far they are still good. I don't know how hard it will be to change them when they run out. This Ken actually has "real" hair instead of plastic hair. The hair was "hairsprayed" into place and looked a bit weird. It looked even weirder when after my daughter tried to brush it." Julianne Bertulli
"When you press the button on his chest you can record something. There are three buttons on his lower back that you press to repeat the message. Each of the buttons has a different voice...one is high, one is your voice and one is Ken. You can only record one thing and then it will record over. Ken will say it over and over until you record another message." Jo McGillivray
