This was a great toy. You do need to be prepared to spend more money once you buy it. The game come with a few items loaded on it and 3 free apps to download. You get 2 downloads that are pre-determined and you get to choose one of you own. The Leapfrog app centre has a lot of games/apps that can be downloaded (at a very reasonable $10/ download). We already had a leapfrog explorer in our house. The Leappad is able to play the old games from the Explorer. My 5 year old loved this toy. She played with it every chance she got. The nice thing was that the games were very similar to what she had played on her Explorer so she knew how to play with them right out of the box. My 9 year old even liked this toy. This toy comes with an application that can make books - she enjoyed this part most of all.See this family's testing journal

out of the box it worked and it was great then as soon as the batteries where done and needing replacing it started giving us problems. If it would have been ours I would have returned it to the store. it was a real waste of time trying to make it work.See this family's testing journal
