First Impressions

Solid and beautifully detailed, the game pieces really are quite exceptional. They also match the gameboard graphics - the characters are even wearing the same outfits. Surprisingly though - especially for a preschool game - the cards are printed on really thin (almost flimsy) card stock, so we're not sure how well they will fare in the hands of excited three year olds. The game itself is a race-to-the-finish style track game. But instead of dice, kids spin Mother Goose's book and advance to the next space matching the character they spin. And if the character they spin is the same as their movement pawn, they get to collect some golden eggs. Note that the game does assume some familiarity witht nursery rhymes, so that kids know that Jack and Jill collect eggs on the well, and Little Bo Peep on the sheep. A beautiful game with old style graphics that evoke the feel of a classically illustrated nursery rhyme book.

I (or my kids) own this toy
Pros:
3D figurines
Familiar characters
Cons:
Poor durability of board & spinner
Boring game play
Comments:
What a disappointment. My kids (4 & 5.5) liked the Mother Goose figures, but the board itself broke (one flap came right off) the first time it was folded back up. We returned the game to the store, but the new set came with a spinner that didn't function properly (landed on the Cat 4 times out of 5). The board itself is more or less pointless in terms of the uninventive rules of the game. It might entertain younger kids (3-4 years) for a while, but otherwise all flash and no substance. Avoid.
