Having a real tuy car in hand, does make some kids want to drive it around like they would on a play mat. But that's not how tihs APP game works - it's defintely more an APP game than an electronic play mat.  While some four year olds can play and enjoy the game, it does take patience to curb the impulse to drive faster than the application allows, especially with that car in your hand. But it's a great APP once kids are ready to play the game instead of just driving the car.
