Well designed and set up to facilitate four very satisfying cooperative puzzle solving sessions. Each of the four games included takes no more than an hour to play, and the games are played in sequence, each getting a little more challenging. Your first task is to look over the materials to find clues, many of which need to be decoded using the various ciphers provided. The aim is to figure out which keys, and in what order, will move you ahead to the next level. We particularly love the Chrono Decoder, which times your adventure and keeps track of you puzzle solving progress.

Tester Reviews

KIDS:

I liked that there were 4 different escape the room games and lots of different puzzles to figure out. You can have lots of people work as a team on the puzzle at the same and one person might notice something that another person might not have noticed. I like the timer machine that it showed you how much time was left and that it gave you alerts when there were clues and that it had the decoders on the side. I wish that you could pause the timer if the phone rings or if someone has to go to the bathroom, I like that there was a good story to each puzzle. Kyle (M10)

ADULTS:

We love escape the room games and finished all four puzzles in this set, though we were successful at only three of them of them. We had an issue with the nuclear countdown puzzle. Unfortunately, we didn't read carefully enough and completed puzzle 3 before puzzle 2 without realizing that we had done them in the wrong order. It was not as clear as it should have been that we needed to do the puzzle on the outside of the box before opening it. It's also not as family friendly. The recommended age for this set is 16+ and I did find that it was harder for our kids (F7 & M10) to participate and help out during family play, than when playing the Thinkfun escape the room games which are recommended for ages 10+ and 13+, and have more puzzles, codes to figure out and different types of puzzles for each game. Also rather than one long game, the four included in this Spin Master version were shorter since each one had only 3 codes to figure out. It was nice to have the timer, and the clue reader along with clues being given at specific intervals, were also good additions. The timer worked well and the keys and clues were easy to follow with one exception in puzzle 3. Everything stores nicely in the box and the puzzles can be reused by friends as you can print out any parts that might need to be written on so that it can be reused. I liked that there was a penalty for a wrong guess and that the timer made the pressure to complete in a specific time range more real. Allison Munroe
